Halloween Safety

Portland has had a really sad year for pedestrian and cyclist fatalities. Let’s take extra precautions this Halloween:

For drivers:

-Leave early. Don’t be in a rush.

-Be extra aware of surroundings and look out for pedestrians (some being very small children) crossing the street.

-Drive in and out of driveways extra slowly.

-Don’t drink and drive. We have great public transportation and plenty of taxis and other services to drive people around.

For children:

-Consider adding reflective tape to their costumes to increase trick-or-treating visibility.

-Consider make-up instead of masks to better peripheral vision. And re-iterate it’s okay to take off masks while crossing the street!

For pumpkins:

If you’re leaving the house consider battery-operated votives.

Be safe and Happy Halloween!
