The Grotto in NE Portland is an outdoor sanctuary and shrine that transforms into a winter wonderland for the month of December. A giant star illuminates the cliff face overlooking the concert hall which features 5 concerts a night for over a month. This makes it the “largest Christmas choral festival in the world!” There are snacks for sale, puppet shows for the kids, carolers, and thousands upon thousands of lights. And don’t miss the little petting zoo. Last time I was there the camel looked on while the cow nuzzled the alpaca who was nuzzling the goat (pictured.) And it all runs through Dec. 30!
P.S. Avoid the parking headache. Use public transportation or park in a nearby neighborhood and walk. And bundle up!
